Strangers

"Strangers" is a gallery of the unknown faces I passed in mid-1980s Moscow and its outskirts, photographed candidly with the LOMO-compact-automat on black-and-white film. Each frame is a brief, unrepeatable encounter — a glance, an expression, a person crossing my path and then gone. Together they build an accidental portrait of a generation living through the last years of the Soviet Union. The toy camera made me quick and unobtrusive, and its rough, grainy images preserve these strangers exactly as the street offered them: fleeting, ordinary, and human.
